What Is Radon, and Why Does It Matter?
Radon is a radioactive gas that forms when uranium in soil and rock breaks down. The gas moves up through the soil and enters a house through cracks in the foundation, gaps around pipes, sump pits and other openings. Air pressure inside a home is usually lower than the pressure in the soil around the foundation, and that difference pulls soil gas, and the radon in it, indoors.
